What is Mojo?

According to the Cambridge English Dictionary, mojo is "a quality that attracts people to you and makes you successful and full of energy"

I want to talk to you about Mojo because it is something that I had when I was younger, but lost somewhere along the way while I was making a family and a future. I was very busy, overweight and a bit frazzled. I was dedicated to my family, very hard working but insecure. I felt confused by this stage in life, uncomfortable in my own skin and was seeking direction to move forward. I felt that I had lost my spark and wanted to get back to the vibrant and confident person I was before children.

Would you feel your life was perfect if:

  • You cooked healthy and delicious meals for yourself and your family
  • Your skinny clothes fit
  • You had dates with your partner
  • Your children listened to you
  • You were in a career that you loved

  • You are too tired to make the right decisions about food for yourself and your family so you choose the quick and easy option; eating too much sugar and drinking too much caffeine and alcohol?
  • You are a bad mother who doesn’t do enough for your kids resulting in bad eating habits and too much TV/ screen time?
  • Your partner is no longer interested in you because you are an inadequate wife, have gained weight and stopped exercising?
  • You will never have a career or identity in your own right again because you are now a mother and a wife, but no longer an individual?

 

We are often very hard on ourselves, and the reality is probably not anywhere close to your worries, but these feelings can manifest as issues around healthy eating, energy levels, time management, relationships and self care. I often had these worries myself and know how debilitating they can be and how they can cast a shadow around everything that you do.

That’s where I was, and I went through a journey that taught me to heal my body through diet and exercise, nourish my soul with a spiritual practice and walk with my head held high because I had faced my fears, taken responsibility for my actions and embraced new challenges.  I learned that transformation is achievable through self care with benefits extending to those we love and those around us.

I trained as a Health Coach at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition where I learned innovative coaching methods, practical lifestyle management techniques, and over 100 dietary theories; everything from Ayurveda, gluten-free, and Paleo, to raw, vegan, and macrobiotics, and everything in between. One of the first things we do is learn about Primary vs. Secondary foods. Secondary Foods are everything that goes into your mouth: food, caffeine, alcohol, supplements, etc. Primary foods are focused on the areas of Relationships, Physical Activity, Career and Spirituality. I practice a holistic approach to health and wellness, which means that I look at how all areas of your life are connected. Does stress at your job or in your relationship cause you to overeat? Does lack of sleep or low energy prevent you from exercising? In all of my programmes, we will meet every other week for one hour and start by identifying your goals. We often don't know what it is that we are after! For example, we might say that we want to lose weight, but does that really mean we want to feel comfortable in our own skin? Every person is different, and I customise every programme to my client. With some people it means a focus on breakfast, for others, a focus on sleep or exercise, it all depends on your specific goals and us working to gather to achieve them.

The value I deliver is providing the practical with humour and compassion. My approach is that transformation doesn’t always have to be so serious – having fun and laughing is a huge part of healing. I don’t tell you what you can’t do and what you can’t eat but instead focus on positive small changes you can make on a daily basis so you can start seeing results fast.
